Flowers, Friends and Fun
As the Garden Club of Lake Placid begins its 86th year, we invite you to join us by becoming a member, getting involved and having some fun.
We will begin our year Wednesday, April 24, with High Tea from 4.30 - 6.30pm in the Wikoff Room of the beautiful Mirror Lake Inn. For more details about this or other programs, click on CALENDAR 2019 on the menu bar of the HOME page.
We can’t help but be excited about what is coming our way for the next two years. Program chairs Anita Cooney and Carol Fox have not been idle!
We will celebrate new members, have a preview of our local flowers and have a chance to renew friendships and make new ones.
From this first get-together, we will pretty much alternate between day and evening meetings. All of our community service (litter pick-ups, Village Clean-Up and tending various gardens) are contingent on natural light so, those of you who don’t drive at night, don’t quit or panic!
Do try to bring a friend in April to expose him/her to flowers and fun. As written on our web History page, the only criterion for membership is $30 dues. “We are open to all genders, races, religions and ages. A desire to learn/see something new, share information with each other and a sense of humor are helpful.”
Two highlights of the future are a joint meeting with the Adirondack Garden Club at the Convention Center with a prestigious speaker. (Hint: subject relates to the movie, The Graduate, with Dustin Hoffman and Ann Bancroft….. if you go back that far!) We will also reprise a custom of GC’s early history by a 5pm cruise to two, unusual properties on Placid Lake.
Rather than reveal all, let’s stop here and leave it at this: We will repeat some of your favorite activities and surprise with some new ones (see Calendar tab).
As hinted previously, we are making it more worthwhile for 9-5ers to join us in Flowers, Friends and Fun. Let’s have it all!
